Life Healing Center - A Place of Personal Tranformation

Chemical Dependency Treatment and Addiction Recovery

Addictions and trauma are intrinsically related. A sustainable recovery program addresses both the addictive patterns and the underlying pain. Integrating the work of recovery is essential: addressing the inner chaos without strong containment and recovery skills exacerbates the addiction; conversely, arresting the addiction alone fosters rigidity, emotional avoidance, and increased despair. The Life Healing Center embraces a two phase recovery program. The initial intervention for addictive behaviors is abstinence. During this phase, external support and structure are necessary. Once a foundation of abstinence has been established, then significant inner work can begin. Phase Two involves exploring the inner landscape.

The Life Healing Center's programs are designed to address the needs of people in recovery. We address Phase One through our six week Serenity Program while Phase Two is the focus of our Residential and Day Programs.

Who can the Life Healing Center help?

  • Clients who have multiple chemical dependency treatment failures may have underlying trauma that is interfering with recovery
  • Clients who continue to struggle with mood swings, depression or other disorders despite actively working their recovery program
  • Clients with a limited or poor quality of life due to a history of unresolved trauma
  • Clients with relapses, sometimes associated with specific triggers, (e.g. anniversaries, family dynamics, grief or other life stressors)
  • Clients whose difficulty developing trust is interfering with their ability to accept support in recovery

The Treatment Program

Our program is based on the understanding that the 12 step model is the single most successful approach to addictions recovery. We also believe that untreated trauma and co-occurring disorders lead to relapse and negatively impact the quality of recovery. In addition to our strong commitment to an abstinence model of chemical dependency treatment, we focus on the addiction interactions which so often present as drug and/or alcohol abuse, sex addiction, eating disorders, compulsive debting, shopping or gambling.

Residents meet two times a week as a group with our chemical dependency specialists to bridge the trauma and chemical dependency work, and to learn to take in support. Individual and group work place special emphasis on developing an individualized relapse prevention plan, as well as deepening spirituality. Residents are also expected to attend 12 Step meetings regularly. Transportation is provided to meetings in the Santa Fe area.
