Life Healing Center - A Place of Personal Tranformation

Relapse Prevention Trauma and Addiction Treatment Program

The Serenity Program has been designed to help clients who need increased support in their recovery before engaging fully in the work of trauma resolution.

The program functions in two ways:

  • Stabilization - The increased structure and decreased stimulation of this program allows the client to get oriented to the treatment process.
  • Preparation - A major focus of the program is skill-building which has been designed to assist the client in increasing emotional tolerance and decreasing defensive responses, better preparing the client for trauma recovery work.

Program components include:

  • A special Core Group which meets five days a week and focuses on safety skills, relapse prevention, group dynamics, and containment.
  • Four individual sessions per week (30-45 minutes each) with the client's Primary Therapist.
  • Three Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) Skills Groups weekly.
  • A check-in group with Counselor Aide staff each evening.
  • Comprehensive psychiatric evaluation and medication consultation upon admission.
  • An initial health assessment by a Registered Nurse upon admission.
  • Additional psychosocial assessments and medical evaluations with follow-up appointments as needed.
  • Individualized treatment agreements as recommended by the treatment team.
  • No adjunctive sessions (EMDR, Somatic Experiencing, breath work, equine therapy, career counseling).
  • No off-campus activities (passes, off grounds 12 Step meetings, outings) except for medical or dental appointments.
  • Daily attendance at on campus 12-Step meetings.

Strongly recommended:

  • Acupuncture and/or massage therapy at least once per week.

Typical clients in the Serenity Program are:

  • Clients admitting to LHC who have a significant relapse history or recent episode of addictive or out-of-control behavior (using chemicals, eating disorder behaviors, sexual acting-out, depressive bouts, manic episodes, dissociation, or self- harm) and are evaluated as in need of more structure and support.
  • Clients admitting to LHC who do not have an extensive or recent history of outpatient therapy.
  • Clients at LHC who display relapse behaviors or otherwise indicate a lack of safety (chronic suicidal ideation, explosive anger, excessive anxiety, acute PTSD)
  • Clients at LHC who require a renewed engagement in the treatment process.
  • Clients at LHC who have violated a treatment agreement.

Important additional information:

  • A client who is admitted directly into The Serenity Program is required to be in that program for a minimum of two weeks necessitating a 6 week total length of stay at LHC.
  • A current LHC client who transfers into Serenity is required to stay in the program for a minimum of one week necessitating a 5 week total length of stay.
  • Serenity is billed at a per diem rate that is 20% higher than the rate for LHC's Primary Trauma Program.
