Life Healing Center - A Place of Personal Tranformation

TREATMENT FOR GAYS, LESBIANS, BI-SEXUALS AND TRANSGENDERED PEOPLE AT LIFE HEALING CENTER

Life Healing Center strives to be a destination of choice for Lesbian, Gay, and Bisexual survivors of trauma. On average, at any given time, approximately one-fourth of our client population is LGB. Included in this group are clients who have led openly gay lives and are relatively comfortable with this aspect of themselves, as well as those for whom sexual and gender identity are still major areas of concern.

About Our GLB-Specific Programming

Our programming relating to LGB Issues and Support focuses on the transformation of sexual and gender identity from a locus of vulnerability to a locus of resiliency. Services available to LGB clients include the following:

  • Twice-weekly group on LGB Issues and Support, providing an all-LGB environment in which clients explore LGB-specific issues or do other trauma resolution or recovery work in an all-LGB environment
  • Availability of adjunctive individual therapy around specific Sexual Identity or Gender Identity concerns;
  • Sexual and Gender Identity Workbook, that explores the relationship between sexual and gender identity and trauma, vulnerability, and resiliency
  • LGB-specific resources in our Sex Addiction and Eating Disorder recovery programming
  • LGB Library with books appropriate for clients at each stage in identity development
  • Access to off-campus LGB 12-Step meetings

In addition, all Primary Therapists and Counselor Aide staff receive training in working with LGB clients, and are familiar with the range of issues affecting LGB people. We have created an environment that embraces LGB people, understands and takes seriously the trauma and suffering caused by homophobia and heterosexism, and celebrates the resiliency and heroism of LGB people. It is our intention - and largely, our accomplishment - that our LGB clients, and indeed all our clients, conclude that they have not heretofore experienced a healing environment so committed to the active engagement and embrace of who each person is in his or her totality.
