When an individual is struggling with a mental health condition, it can cause multiple disturbances to arise in every area of his or her life. Depression is one type of mental illness that can elicit such disturbances and can bring about much tumult and distress to the lives of those afflicted by it. The all-consuming feelings of sadness, helplessness, and hopelessness that are often definitive of depression can make it difficult for those suffering from this condition to function appropriately a daily basis. It often becomes difficult for these individuals to perform appropriately at work, interact socially, and adhere to everyday responsibilities, which ultimately serves to bring about feelings of worthlessness and further perpetuates the cycle of despair.
At Life Healing Center, we realize the emotional pain that plagues people who are suffering from the symptoms of depression. We also recognize the turmoil that ensues when these individuals are battling other mental health concerns, chemical dependency problems, and/or intimacy disorders, or who are trying to heal from a traumatic past, at the same time they are attempting to cope with symptoms of depression. For this reason, we have devised specialized programming that aims to meet all of the complex needs of these individuals so that they can find true and lasting healing.
In coming to Life Healing Center, men and women can receive treatment and support, learn coping skills, and develop a newfound sense of confidence in knowing that life does not have to be governed by the presence of a mental illness like depression. Our caring and compassionate staff is ready, willing, and able to help you or a loved one come to realize the happy, healthy existence that is deserving of all people.
The Connection between Depression and Other Disorders
At Life Healing Center, we are fully equipped to treat those whose primary issue is depression. However, sadly, it is not uncommon for people to experience other disorders alongside depression. Those who have suffered through a traumatic event, or a series of traumatic events, often struggle in coping with the residual feelings of emotional turmoil that were elicited by that experience or those experiences. There are instances in which individuals who have endured a trauma begin to experience symptoms synonymous with depression, as they find themselves incapable of managing their emotional distress. In other instances, individuals who have a history of depression may find that their symptoms worsen or intensify after having experienced a trauma. Moreover, often times, those who experience depression may become dependent on drugs or alcohol as they attempt to self-medicate. For these reasons, we offer comprehensive treatment is sought that not only addresses the depression symptoms, but also works to heal any additional unresolved issues as well.
When a person’s overall mental and physical health are not treated comprehensively, he or she is also likely to begin withdrawing from family and friends and experiencing disturbances within relationships that were once highly important to him or her. These people may also struggle to perform at the expected level occupationally, as their emotional distress becomes so overwhelming, and they may subsequently lose their jobs as a result. Additionally, the longer that symptoms of depression, trauma, and addiction are allowed to persist, the more susceptible individuals are to engaging in the act of self-harm and experiencing the onset of suicidal ideation. Fortunately, if one is experiencing issues in addition to depression, we do provide treatment options that also to address these issues and prevent such detriments from occurring.
Helping a Loved One or Family Member Get Treatment
It can be heartbreaking to watch someone you care for suffer as he or she faces each day troubled by the symptoms of depression. While you know that your loved one needs help, you may feel unsure as to what you, specifically, can do to help him or her. Consider the following:
- Talk to your loved one. Express your concerns, while also ensuring your loved one that you are there for him or her.
- Provide your loved one with the opportunity to express his or her feelings openly and honestly, while refraining from showing any judgment.
- Educate yourself about depression and various treatment options that have proven successful in alleviating the symptoms of this illness.
- Research treatment options that are viable for your loved one and his or her specific needs.
- Present your findings to your loved one and convey to him or her why you believe that it would be so beneficial for him or her to consider taking part in such treatment.
- Offer to accompany your loved one to any appointments that are scheduled for assessments or tours of various treatment centers.
- Once your loved one has become engaged in treatment, be an active part of the therapeutic process. If family therapy sessions are included in your loved one’s treatment plan, make the effort to take part in them. Communicate frequently with your loved one while he or she is in treatment, consistently encouraging and supporting him or her throughout the process.
- Inquire with your loved one’s treatment provider about things that you can do at home to be of assistance in your loved one’s recovery process once he or she has completed treatment.

Men and women, aged 18 and older, who wish to improve their lives and learn the skills needed to function without the physical and emotional turmoil that is known to arise when such conundrums are present can partake in our innovative programming to achieve the healing they need. Our team of experienced professionals, which is comprised of a board certified adult psychiatrist, therapists, nurses, clinical technicians, licensed drug and alcohol counselors, and ancillary therapists, is committed to providing culturally-sensitive, effective, and compassionate treatment so that patients can leave our center with improved overall wellness.
When a person begins treatment at Life Healing Center, that individual will be embarking on a truly life-changing experience that is tailored to meet his or her specific and unique needs. Our thorough assessments will gather pertinent information, identify the most pressing concerns plaguing our patients, and reveal underlying contributors that have led to seeking treatment at our pioneering center. This information will be used to devise an individualized treatment plan, which will then be put into action after the patient is assigned to one of our Core Programs. Our residential programs are all designed to care for specific treatment needs and can include the following effective therapeutic interventions and approaches:
Detoxification services: In the event a person comes to our center wishing to overcome an addiction to substances in addition to struggling with symptoms of depression, detox may be necessary before he or she engages in our residential programming. These services involve ridding the body of the toxic substances that have contributed to an addiction so that patients can then embark on therapeutic interventions and work on recovery and sobriety. Medical professionals supervise these services so as to minimize the risk involved, and every effort is put forth to make patients as comfortable as possible. These services are recommended on a case-by-case basis, and the need for this service will be discussed prior to formulating a finalized treatment plan.
Medication management: When a person is battling a mental health condition, such as depression, that causes severe symptoms that cannot be treated via therapies alone, certain medications may be recommended as part of a patient’s treatment plan. Our highly trained psychiatrist evaluates patients who may be in need of medication, can prescribe medication, and will then monitor the progress of each patient should medication management become a part of his or her care while at Life Healing Center. Medications prescribed, as well as dosages given, can be altered depending on the patient’s response to them and decisions to make changes to medications can be discussed when meetings occur with our psychiatrist.
Individual therapy: In order to give our patients the one-to-one time they need to process their past and current experiences while at our center, each patient receives the opportunity to partake in individual therapy sessions with his or her primary therapist. These sessions can be a time to establish individual goals, process setbacks, celebrate victories, and work on skill building within the sanctity of a one-on-one therapeutic relationship.
Group therapy: An integral part of the care offered at Life Healing Center is the inclusion of group therapy. This treatment method allows patients to receive support and learn from others who are facing similar struggles. The following topics are among those covered in the groups offered at our center:
- Conflict resolution
- Trauma resolution
- Healing shame
- Emotion regulation
- Healthy lifestyles
- Living in balance
- Disease Model of Addiction
- Relapse prevention
- Preparing for discharge
Family therapy: Available on an as-needed basis, family therapy sessions are designed to heal the relationships that exist with those closest to our patients. The patient’s assigned primary therapist conducts family sessions and the overarching goals for this treatment method are to instill healthy communication skills, resolve conflict, and foster a strong network of support that can serve our patients and their loved ones well for a lifetime.
Experiential therapy: Designed to increase our patient’s awareness of the mind, body, and spirit connection, Life Healing Center offers various experiential therapies. With the ability to foster true healing, the following are among the experiential therapies our programs feature:
- Movement therapy
- Group art therapy
- Group equine therapy
Ancillary therapies: Led by contracted ancillary therapists, our residential programming options feature the following, which have proven effectiveness in helping to further patients along in their healing process:
- Individual art therapy
- Individual equine therapy
- Somatic experiencing
The combination of the treatment methods and interventions that are incorporated into a patient’s treatment plan is determined prior to starting treatment at Life Healing Center. However, if certain therapeutic interventions are deemed appropriate during the course of treatment, revisions can be made to said plan so as to provide clients with the most effective care and positive treatment experience possible.
Discharge Planning and Continuing Care
From the moment a man or woman begins treatment at Life Healing Center, the discharge planning process begins. During the course of treatment, we assess our patients’ ongoing needs in order to recommend the most appropriate types of support for when patients leave our center. Establishing an aftercare plan is a collaborative effort that occurs between a patient’s primary therapist and the patient, and we supply discharge planning groups during treatment in order to effectively prepare clients for discharge. It is our goal to make sure that our patients leave Life Healing Center with the confidence and skills needed to prevent the recurrence of problematic symptoms and behaviors, as well as the confidence to continue the progress made while in our care.
